And we’re making progress folks, those DK leggings and shirts have got her twitching for the great wardrobe transformation at last…
In the dedicated wife-stash:
The punky, Westwood inspired collection. We have
a beautiful length of fine wool suiting, Black Watch tartan
smallish piece of snakeskin print chiffon [this surprised me when she chose it, but it works with the others very well]
a metre each of a black mesh, and a punkily ripped looking black jersey, all from Barry’s.
2 panels of rather thin, very stretchy jersey from The Textile Centre. This is 2 panels of a grey/black graffiti print, with two lage clusters of deep orange roses. Very striking.
Thoughts so far: the tartan is for a good pair of trousers, but with a punky nod, maybe some zips overlaid or some such. (How about a pleated/draped pocket detail? Hmmmm, I’ll have to ponder further.) I think I bought 1.5m, so not ahuge amount of leeway with a plaid to match.
The graffiti and roses: I would personally go for a top with as much drape as possible to utilise the quality of the fabric- OH wants leggings and a top. Leggings possibly cropped below the knee. I fear the fabric is too thin to survive as leggings, it’s more like tights! Perhaps feasible if I underline- I’ve got some putty grey very thin jersey bought for such a purpose [Birmingham Rag Market, @50p/m, I can’t complain!]. Then a T shirt top, with sleeves in the mesh. This will take clever cutting- I don’t want those roses too obviously plonked on the lady garden…
I will be sneaky and try to cut into the neckline and introduce a twist or drape. Think Marcy Tilton meets Seditionaries! [I’ve got that V8793 pattern from the Ultimate T shirt class on Craftsy SOMEWHERE. It got misplaced when we moved last year]
The snakeskin really wants me to use it on the bias- again I’m thinking a drapey top, using the mesh for sleeves. The ripped looking stuff may end up as a loose vest to layer up. She’s really trying to channel her punk/goth days!
Meanwhile, at the other end of my lovely wife’s personality, we have the sharp and dapper thing going on. For this we have earmarked the following:
a faux suede with a lovely drape: this was bought to make some trousers, but I may yet steal it to make another V1440!
Liberty Tana lawn in a lovely denim blue shade, from the Rag Market. Shirt of course for this, but which style?
Grey cotton poplin, the same as I used for the wrap shirt, from Tia Knight.
Damson stretch woven, poly. Crepe satin perhaps? It’s shiny one side, fairly matt the other. I bought it several years ago from Barry’s, but she could never decide on the patttern. I’m now pushing her towards that wonderful Guy Laroche suit, V1143. Much more interesting than black.
All very stoosh don’t you think?
Any opinions or suggestions gratefully received.

Keep on rocking, sweetie…. I’m still trying to finish my purple satin kimono …. trouble is, life keeps getting in the way…. dratted friends making the pub look interesting hehe!
I got as far as laying out all the fabrics and patterns last night, ready to cut. Then I had a series of ohone calls and made no further progress. Working late tonight, and the weekend is going to be eaten up with family activity. I’m sure I’ll manage to squeeze in a bit of chopping time though!
