It’s amazing how you can google almost ANYTHING and find an image…
Anyhew
This is a pretty busy week (as I’ve probably said before, but hey-ho, I’m getting on). I work full time, and I’m having a tooth out on Wednesday afternoon. This is a really big deal, as I’ve NEVER had a tooth out without being under a general anaesthetic…yup, I’m a dental wimp. Long story. Back to the point: I’m working tomorrow, Wednesday morning, 12 hours on Thursday [evening classes, meh], and all day Friday. My niece is coming to collect the birthday cake on Friday evening. This thing needed doing!
I got the wife to help with the arduous task of kneading nearly 3kilos of fondant icing until soft. I got to wear the pervy rubber gloves, as I had to make the white icing pale yellow. ONE drop of colouring, and a helluva lot of squeezing and pressing. Boring, and hard work. My hands hurt. Icing duly softened and re-wrapped, wife retires. I continue.
I gave the buttercream coating a little smooth. Sort of. I ended up taking off more than intended, and had to put some back on. Ah well, I’m no expert. Then out comes the pink fondant for the top tier…and on it goes. All good, yay!
Remove top tier from kitchen, bring out botom tier. On with the purple icing. Reasonable…this layer is a weird shape because I decided to do the topsy turvy thing. This means a sort of armchair shape has to be carved out of the bottom tier, so that the top one sits in it. Tricky, but I coped.
I nicked the little bobble trim from the Youtube video series I watched yesterday. (Highly recommended by the way.)
Remember the original ‘target’ image? Yeah well it’s nothing like that now is it? lol
Now here are the 2 tiers ready to go… I bunged some skewers into the bottom tier to support the weight of the top one, and plonked it on. A little bit of fluffing and fussing, and all seemed fine.
More balls…
Now I decided to channel the spirit of the original, and add dots. Well, I spent good money on the cutters, why not? I considered doing sort of swirls/spirals with ‘worms’ of the icing, but it just looked mangled and manky, so I abandoned that idea sharpish!
I scattered them on, and just went for it. Three pretty butterflies, and a load of glitter,
and what do you think? I’m quite pleased, I hope the recipients will be!
Looks very very cute much too pretty to eat!

Wow, what fantastic cake.Your niece will be delighted. Good luck with tooth. It’s not as bad as you expect and surely better not to have a GA. You will survive and more cakes and zebra sewing will ensue!
