I’m whiling away the last few hours of term all alone in the maths/science office. Not a bad thing, as I brought my iPod in today, and I’m blasting out a couple of my favourite playlists:
While I did a bit of prep work, some opera. Nothing too highbrow honest, but I got a taste for some of it while I was making costumes for an amateur opera group years ago. I’m not a big fan of screechy sopranos, and I fast forward past some of the ’40 most beautiful arias in the world’, but some are amaze-a-balls. I mostly listen to classical when I need to concentrate on my work, as the foreign language lyrics don’t distract me so much. When marking, it has to be non-vocal though, and quite sedate.
Now, however, work done, I’m just killing time until I can escape, so out comes my ‘Wedding music, Elaine’s jumping playlist’. Not being any sort of dancer, my ‘dancing’ is a pink-influenced student pogo. I’m not allowed to do this in public, as I disgrace myself too badly and embarrass the wife. Mostly I confine myself to enthusiastic table-drumming, head banging, and shoulder bopping. Oh yes, and occasional furtive bouncing off the furniture. Saddo.
Not me, I’m not this good…

I can tick 5 off the list who I’ve seen live! Does this make me cool?
Vey cool- makes me jealous! I saw the Beat on a Party in the Park when my eldest was a toddler- the crowd was a bit of a crush. so they let him stand on stage to dance to ‘Mirror in the Bathroom’
Must ask- which 5?
The Stranglers, Rolling Stones, Blue Oyster Cult, Aerosmith and Phil Lynott’s band a few months before he died….suppose I cheated a bit with that one, but he IS/(was) Thin Lizzy.
A bit of a rock chick but I secretly admired Adam and the Ants. It just wouldn’t have been right to admit to it.
Oh well Adam Ant was just too stunningly beautiful to resist!
Great list for a party. Love those Bitmingham lady dancers too. Especially when they do the bangra track Dhol Vadja by Romey Gill. Thanks for reminding me and I’m not gonna mention your job or good luck in that either 😉

Your list reminds me just how long it’s been since I played any music. I have boxes of cd albums and singles, but I don’t know what has happened to the ‘soundtracks of my life. Love ‘Don’t fear the reaper’, but my Rolling Stones and Stranglers’ tracks would be different – Nice and sleazy and Angie.

I transferred all my CDs etc to ipod years ago, and haven’t bought much other than through itunes ever since. I have various playlists to suit the occasion…all too often I don’t bother I’m afraid! After working all day amongst sommany voices, silence is preferanle a lot of the time. Boring old poop
