What’s going on? I know how to use a tape measure FFS, I know what size I run to for various pattern companies [more or less], and I know how to sew the right size seams…
I have posts already drafted out re the Katy & Laney tap shorts and the StyleArc Mindi skirt. They’ll be a little later than expected!
The shorts make me look like Don Estelle [despite grading down on the hips/darts/CB again by…well you’ll see when I post it.] So they need fixing.
You already know about the work in progress which is the lovely StyleArc Etta skirt [the green wool]…I’m still working out the line of least resistance for fixing that one.
And today’s delight- the Mindi skirt.
Lovely pattern, great drafting, blah blah. I’d gone for a 16 as it’s designed for woven. I normally take a 14 in StyleArc when I use knit fabrics, so this seemed sensible.
I checked the waistband measurement, and chopped off a fair bit- aiming at about 36″ waist [hush!] I sewed waistband to facing as instructed, and checked again round my mighty girth. I had to chop off another few inches, but the fit is nice and snug. I
I then whizzed it together as far as getting ready for zip and waistband, and compared measurements across the top edges with the assembled waistband. I even allowed for the fact that as a curved waistband, the edge to be joined to the skirt is longer then my waist edge, so needs about 40″.
Gawd help me- it’s almost EIGHT INCHES too big.
I know I printed it out correctly, I always check the test square. How big do they think a size 16 waist should be?
Now I get the fun of taking out this mighty amount of fabric along 4 vertical seams and the front edge. I’d hoped to wear this tonight…fat chance.
Wish me luck!
