Gadgets. Every steampunk character needs gadgets, right? I KNEW this, I could feel it in my..er..whatnots.
So I did some googling, thought some thoughts, rummaged in my drawers. Ooh matron.
Look what I’ve found:
Inspired? Of course you are- look at this haul! Two slide rules, 3 ear rings, 5 bobbins [but of course I have many more], a tiny whisk, a useless tea strainer, and an extremely old, bakelite handled carving fork. Fab.
If you recall [and of course, you are all riveted by my maunderings], my character is Francesca von Tuthriffore, and archaeo-mathematician. OK, OK, originally it was Hypatia, now it’s Francesca. Shoot me, I need to make everyone call me Fanny, I can’t help myself.
She is developing as my fevered [drugged?] imagination wanders on.
She is also a crypt-cryptologist, solving the riddles of the tombs of the ancients. OBVIOUSLY therefore, she must also be a time traveller. What’s very important to the steampunk community?
Well done children, it’s tea. And octopi, but that’s a different matter.
So my time travel device will be tea powered. Hence the strainer. Don’t worry your little selves about the rest, all will become clear. Er…probably.
Two slide rules, because I’m clearly going to need to work in several dimensions simultaneously. And jewellery because it should also be pretty of course.
Bobbins, because…I haven’t decided yet, but they are most definitely necessary to civilised well being. And gears. And keys. It’ll be fabulous dahlinks!
Oh yes, when not time travelling, my companion and I travel on horseback. THIS horse’s back to be precise. OMG how gorgeous.
