Laughing Moon Silverado [bust gore] corset
Coutil strength layer
Dupion silk outer layer [but which colour folks, which colour?]
Cotton lawn inner layer/lining
I’ve just run up a toile, and after much swearing and faffing, got it laced up properly [this took several attempts and a ‘wiring diagram’ to get it just so]
I just slipped boning into channels at CF and CB to get a rough idea, as my main concern was to make sure that
[a] it’s not too big as many reviews say- all I can guess is no one knows how to read instructions or measure themselves, it’s just the fit I expected. Rough laced and not fully bones, ther’s a 3-4″ gap at the back which is what you should go for. [You can always lace tighter when it settles after wearing for a while.]
[b] the cup/bust gore fit. Now here I think it IS a bit roomy, despite my DDs. I’m reducing the gore size, but will do a final tweak on the real fabric rather than faff with more toile fitting. Impatient? Moi? How very dare you!
The missus had to help lace me in, as I didn’t bother with the busk either [NO I’M NOT IMPATIENT!] This was quite amusing, as she was being WAY too gentle with lacing me up, and I could have turned round inside it on her first effort. I found that adopting my Scarlett O’Hara voice and demanding a 20″ waist did the trick. Ahem.
Wifey does NOT appreciate being likened to Hattie McDaniel I find, I cannot imagine why, marvelous woman!
Now tomorrow we’re planning a little punky perambulation, but I intend to get the real deal cut out and started. So, tell me peeps, bronze or aqua dupion for the corset?
Aqua defo. Lovely colour

I would pick the bronze. It is a fabulous colour (s). I haven’t made the one with the bust gores but still do think that the Dore runs large (and I definitely can measure and read instructions, possibly even at the same time). It’s a very useful pattern to cut your corset-making teeth on. I like the Atelier Sylphe ones. They are taken from original corsets in the owner’s collection and come one-sized. You have to grade them to fit. Well worth the effort. Xx

Lol! Well apart from the ‘cup’ looking a bit generous at first fitting, everything else was bang on, so I must obviously run large as well. Strange don’t you think? Maybe they’ve changed their sizing guide to reflect customer reviews? I shall be looking Atelier Sylphe up now..although the thought of that extra effort leaves me cold!

Currently standing at 2:1 in favour of bronze.

As no one else has commented, and I’ve cut out the base and want to get on, bronze it is!

Great to see this pattern finally getting used. Have you found the lacing method which allows you to tighten your own laces? It involved leaving two loops in the middle of the rows of eyelets which you use to tighten the upper and lower sections.

Yep- I had to draw a ‘wiring diagram’ to get it right, and I was copying a RTW corset in front of me, and I STILL went wrong several times. Sigh. Thanks loads xx

OMG. I couldn’t believe that scene in GWTW – just dreadful. Anyway the corset is coming along lovely. You clever thing…

Bronze gets my vote.

It seems I am late with my input but I would say bronze too. I did giggle about being able to turn round in the first lacing. True story. A friend had her wedding and bridesmaids dresses made by another local dressmaker (something of a relief to me I must say… no that isn’t the story but it would be a good one) and was standing close to our group when she called her senior bridesmaid. Said girl spun round quickly … and her dress stayed where it had been. I was ordered not to say a word. Just as well as I was temporarily speechless!

I would have said bronze too, but I’ve been out for a few days and missed the vote!
