AAAARHGGGHHHHH!All 34 eyelets in place, tediously painstaking lacing inserted. Said lacing duly slackened off to fullest extent [4″ +] to make for ease of donning the corset.
Beautiful shaping gained from the hip gussets, so I’ll have a waist without having to cinch in too much…inside seam allowances clipped, and 50% catch-stitched into place so they don’t get in the way when I start sliding the boning into the channels.
And I couldn’t do it up. I wriggled, swore, twisted, breathed in, lay down on the floor [remember getting 1970s jeans on?] caught bits of belly flap between the catches… OUCH!
I only seemed to be able to get half the catches on the busk done up at any time. I checked, they do fasten when I’m NOT in it!
After 20 minutes of fury, I finally got all but one done up, got in front of the mirror, and beheld a FREAK.
Well OK, maybe not that extreme, but every bit of my considerable belly fat was smooshed down and below waist height, causing an alarmingly mid-labour profile, and the bottom of the corset flaunting a scarey erection.
Gave up, drank vodka, went to bed. Now because the toile was fine, other than cup size, and I could actually dive into it with CF sewn shut, what’s happened? I took huge care in the cutting and seaming, and having just measured it, it’s opened out to MORE than my girth measurement.
Bugger and bum!
Because I had to clip all the seams to press them, there’s nothing to be done as regards letting it out, I’d hoped to only have to pull it IN in places…
It’s getting put to one side today, while I await suggestions from you and do some other stuff. I need to get my marking finished [not much fortunately], unpick the parasols, and/or start a carpet bag. I need a simple, successful project to reduce my stress before going back into the maelstrom that is work!
I suppose ripping out a couple of side seams and inserting two more panels isn’t possible? I can’t tell you why you made a toile that fits generously and ended up with a garment that’s miniscule. More libation to the sewing gods?

libations are needed, but more for me I think!

I’ve often wondered about corsets and Spanx underwear – where does all that excess flesh go when they are done up – now I know! LOL!!
I’d think the only possibility is a new panel or two – bummer though after all that work!

After some thought I suspect the issue is my vile flabby belly preventing me from being able to hook things up in a straight line- it keeps bouncing out of whack. When I have the energy, I’ll try again with the aid of some Bridget Jones knickers. If that works, I shall contrive something to do the same job that will also enable me to make use of the facilities lol!
