Oh now this is ridiculous! I’m so close to getting the damn thing done, and I have more decisions to make. The first was easy:
Although the pinkish lilac of the trims matches quite well with the pinkish sequins…er, no. So they came off.
The trim on the left is the scaled down version of the one I’ve already attached to the skirt drapery…but now I’m thinking it looks clownish. Sigh. Is it better with just the sequin strip on the right, or is that too minimal?
These buttons were the favourite when I bought them..but now THEY look clownish too. Sigh.
Looks like it will be the little diamante/rhinestone ones, which I originally thought were too blingy, but now I’m wavering. the size is spot on though…
Then there are those lovely sequins…should I use some of those around the bottom edges?
HELP!!!
Are the bottom edges to be tucked in? If so, me being lazy, would leave it plain. I like the small square buttons and I like both of the trims – so no help there. lol

nope, the bodice is worn over the skirt…

I like the small buttons too. Could you get more in a tonal colour then they wouldn’t stand out? They sparkly ones are really pretty though. No help from me on the trims either. I like them both too. 🙂 Xx

I think you need to put on both dress and top, to give us an idea what it would look like. Especially when it comes to the trim. I like the idea of the same trim at the top as on the bottom, but maybe just an element, i.e. just the sequin strip, is enough? That might be. So maybe going for simple (just sequin) and the buttons you first bought for the project? I think they look great, but it would be easier to choose it we saw a picture or two with you inside the top. *hint, hint*

But there’s no trim there… I have been using my imagination though, and I wonder what is the effect you’re aiming for? Iirc people back then weren’t afraid of going all out, and so I think you should go for a full “clownish” outfit, to use your own words. I think you can carry it off. Actually I think both you and the outfit are able to do so. *nods*

I think original trim, small buttons and bare bottom. (No, not that one 😱). As you have pointed out the original versions of this style would have had lots of trim so ‘go for it’.

Bare bottom is likely with my divided drawers anyway…

Hello Fairy, I have finally made it into blogland! Having finished my treatment and all that stuff, I have come to learn all about steampunk sewing and who better than from our very own Missy (I am thinking Dr Who here, surely one of the firstly steampunk programmes?). As always I have nothing of any use to add to the sewing comments whatever but I like a good read and inspiration. Xxx.

I like both trims and both sets of buttons so what about big trim, small buttons or small trim and big buttons. Don’t think they look ‘clownish’ but you have a better idea being able to see everything ‘in the flesh’.

It’s still only pinned on- I was going to stitch it last night but got thoroughly distracted by the buttonholer and lemon drizzle cake. I think I’m going with bigger trim to match the skirt, and the smaller but flashier buttons. Fingers crossed! [There may be rosettes as well now I’ve cracked that…]

I like the big trim and the small buttons. You don’t want to go too plain at the top when your skirt is so fancy!
