The sewing room is set up, organised, and I’m ready to catch up on myself- although I have so much in my head, I will need several lists to decide on an order of process.
Yesterday, if you recall, the ‘sewing room’looked like a bomb-site:
After I left work this afternoon [like the hounds of hell were behind me, which is horribly near the truth], we went on a little visit to B&Q, and picked up some storage. Two metal garage racking sets, and a plastic trio of drawers. The drawers now contain current patterns in use, current trims, and some bits and bobs of corset wires and stuff which has no home. The Singer has come into the fold, and even has her own dedicated bin.
My poor daylight magnifying lamp suffered an unfortunate accident recently, and although it got clamped back together by my resourceful little wife, it no longer has the flexibility required. I have ordered a new delight, a THREE WAY version, which can free stand on the floor, the desk, or be clamped into place at will. Ooooh….
The little chest of drawers sits neatly next to it, and the ironing board [which needs replacing] fits tidily between that and the fridge. Yes the fridge. This little room adjoins the kitchen, which is large, but uselessly designed, so the fridge sits in what was the dining room. Ah well, needs must.
There’s a large heap of trim ready to be ruffled sitting by the Singer, that’s a possible first job for tomorrow morning, cos it would be nice to get the ruffles on my ‘Mary Poppins’ skirt, to wear to a ‘Victorian day’ at out local stately home tomorrow afternoon. On the large table, the aforementioned goodies which have been waiting to be sewn up for far too long.
Next to the table, a dining chair to use when I give tuition, and one of the shelving racks. Everything on there was variously under the table, or piled on upended dining chairs until today. It includes, from bottom to top:
The Crate of Shame [bottom left] and Wife’s Stash [bottom right and beyond]
More lovely fabric, including the bronze leather and all those gorgeous feathers
A couple of items which need finishing off, more fabric recently purchased for us both, the trouser toiles, the utili-kilt toile, and two small crates of thread
My binding stash, interfacing stash, two tool boxes of small stuff, and the proper tool kit recently gifted by my lovely missus
At the top, a parasol waiitng to be re-covered, and the new hot-air gun. [Wait and see]
That little lot can be nicely disguised by this lovely screen, which used to live in the conservatory when we had one.Beyond that, the boiler cupboard and the other shelf unit, which will either be populated with my fabric crates which currently live in a wardrobe, or will be colonised by the wife. I suspect the latter.
Excellent storage capacity, I think you’ll agree, at about £35 each- I’m chuffed.
And just to give you the full 360 degree view, the ironing board and new general storage drawers. Yes, the washbasket is tucked in there too, I forgot to shift it!
And now I feel very virtuous, and ready to sew. Place your bets ladies and gents, on what comes out of Fairy’s Glory Hole first. Ahem.
