I was so determined to finish this bloody silk bodice today. It’s been sitting there, part done, for so ruddy long, making me feel guilty. I just spent the best part of an hour carefully clipping, trimming and pressing all the ruddy princess seams in the silk, and in the coutil lining. I’m all hot and bothered and steamed.
Then I faffed about attaching the little collar, and pinning the lining on to bag it out. Much fiddling with trying to get all the seams aligned. AND realised that despite messing up at this stage with the suede version, and being determined to make it wasitcoat style, swing the side seams last….I forgot.
So I will have to bind the armholes, hey ho, just another job.
Bagged it out, trimmed, clipped and prepped. Turned it through…and yes, I had the lining the wrong way out. Bugger and bum!
Only two options that I can see:
[a] add a lining [aaargh] and this might make it too tight
or [b] unbag, unpick, re sew with horrendously small, already clipped seam allowances.
Stopping for tea and cake. What would you do?
I find that after unpicking the seam, some spray starch along the seam lines helps to give what is left of the seam allowance a little strength. This way the clipping doesn’t continue to split. Having said that, I do find cake helpful as well.

The cake has helped, but I’m really pissed off with myself. I stitched it soooooo carefully! I’ll try the starch idea, thanks

Oh please, let me give back your advice to me – “who cares if the finish is crappy? [Apart from you, and that doesn’t count of course…]”

I can’t have all that cording and the last scrap of beautiful silk…and all the seams inside raw and chafing. Coutil is tooooo stiff. I think it’s going to be a case for unpicking, hand basting, and fraycheck…soddit where’s the other cake?

Leave it for another day. When I’m desperate to get something finished something always goes wrong no matter how slowly or carefully I do it. Unless you have a deadline to wear it, leave it be. Another guilt trip to add to the many. Finish another project or while the evening away with tea, cake and tv and perhaps a bit of hand sewing.

Leave it as is but cover all the seams with a wide ribbon or bias binding. Just whip stitch it either side to the lining and present it as a design feature!!!
Just bagged up my latest sewing offering on the basis it didn’t make my heart sing or give me joy. Now deciding on what to make first out of the list of things that will make me happy.

I would bind the exposed seam allowances…

Oh crap. I’d let it rest for a day and then weigh my options. You’ve got some good suggestions!

I did it! It’s done, she loves it, and there WILL be photos as soon as she’s done her hair. Allegedly. Now for my 6Napoleon rush job…

LOL! Nope, don’t think so. *shakes head* But a strong sense of doing things right in your craft, which is something I can definitely get behind!

I couldn’t leave it like that either – it would be too uncomfortable. Put it aside, do something else then come back and unpick. You don’t have a choice I’m afraid. What a bugger!

Glad it is all fixed. It is really disheartening when something like that happens. Looking forward to the big reveal. Xx

She’s being very recalcitrant about having her pics taken. Typical!
