  1. Oh my word, well done you. I don’t particularly like sewing buttons or buttonholes for that matter so you have my admiration. The buttonholes look great too. Can’t wait to see the finished ensemble.

    1. Thanks- I just counted 45 buttons in total! Not a single buttonhole though- the ones you see are double strips of ribbon, purely decorative, and the ones at the back have elastic loops. Hem today, and I’ll see how far I get with the corset ready for the big reveal.

      1. Love the ribbon instead of button holes. Great idea! I have just finished a jacket which will never be done up but has fab buttons. The buttons holes are sewn in. Just not cut.

No-one has noticed yet. I may steal the ribbon idea though….

      2. I can’t take credit for the idea, it’s on the pattern instructions. It is a very common technique in historic costumes though, also using ‘military’ braid and the like. I was surprised at how well it came out as long as no one looks too closely…

    1. They’re collar wires- very common in those high necked Victorian and Edwardian blouses and dresses. You just slip them inside and tack in place. The same principle as those little plastic collar stands you get in men’s shirts to make the collar point crisp, but flexible as they go against the neck itself. I haven’t used them yet, but they mean I don’t have to interface the hell out of the fine fabric to get the required look. I’m hoping they’ll make it look stiff, but be comfortable!
