…or is it teal? Vogue 1415, Tom & Linda Platt tunic
This was a really fast make, having only 3 pattern pieces. The fabric is a truly luxurious treat I got from my favourite eBay seller, The Italian Textile Company. Not cheap, the 2m cost me over thirty squid, but it’s SO worth it! It was described as “LUXURIOUS FINESILKY LUSTRE VELVET TEAL GREEN SCRATCH TONES” , I think it is cotton/cupro, and looked like this in the photo:
I was momentarily disappointed when I opened the parcel, as the colour is much more of a deep, petrol-tinted blue-grey. As soon as I touched it I didn’t give a damn about the colour! It is weighty, and drapey, feels more like suede than velvet, and has a crepey backing. It’s delicious. Don’t bother looking, there is no more [I tried to buy more straight away, but it was all gone before Xmas.]
When I had my big pre-Xmas cutting out spree, I knocked this one out, and also used a piece of the leftover fabric as the back contrast draped piece on my V9207 top, blogged here. Somehow it sank to the bottom of the heap, and I’ve only just reached it.
The fabric was wayyyyy too heavy for the back drape as it turned out, the ruddy thing slides back on my shoulders every time I wear it, so it’s been retired while I hunt out something suitably lightweight to replace it. Ignore pattern fabric specs at your peril!
Anyway, turns out it’s PERFECT for this Tom & Linda Platt pattern, and it whizzed together in a flash, despite double stitched hems everywhere including the neck edge. The tiny bit of stretch in the fabric meant I could ignore any FBA, and the length is nice. The sleeves may actually be a fraction long, but that’s quite unusual with my monkey arms, so I don’t care!
There’s a nicely stitched down partial pleat in the front, released at top and bottom, and the neckline falls slickly into the drape without the ususal faffing I find with cowls. No facings, but it shows no inclination to roll out revealing the wrong side. Neat!
This will go on the T&T pile, I want a couple more, maybe in something slinkier [I have my eye on that silk satin I bought for Dawn as she hasn’t chosen anything to be made up in it yet and it’s tooooo beautiful to be ignored…can you hear the sweet siren song?
And as an added bonus, snowdrops and hellebores- spring is springing!
