Well, that’s what my steampunk pals reckoned this fabulous African wax cotton from the Rag Market foretold! Black glossy waxed cotton, pintucked in a criss-cross pattern in red, it really does look rather like fancy leather [I don’t think you can pintuck rubber, lol].
I’ve decided to team it with the Truly Victorian 10 gore skirt again, [I love that high waist and the swoosh of the gored shape] and WAS intending to make the Eton jacket again…
Then, after the debacle of the Reconstructing History Edwardian shirtwaist [the stripey one], I invested in another Truly Victorian pattern, and got one of THEIR shirtwaists. I’ve just barely managed to squeeze out the shirtwaist and skirt from the 6 yard piece, so it will look like a dress. The sleeves are even more enormous than the RH pattern, but [I checked] drafted to the right size for human arms.
I dragged the stripey UFO out of the Crate of Shame, and laid the cuffs and collar pieces against the ones from the TV pattern. Well, you can see the difference.
I’m binning the RH on this occasion, just in case I ever forget and fall into the pit again. I was pleased to rip up the stripey blouse, and use most of it for the skirt and blouse facings. At least it’s not completely wasted!
I have cut out another blouse in the alternate style, from another door panel piece of the gorgeous aqua shot silk I used for my Edwardian corset. It may get some lace trim, just because. I was playing with other stash pieces, and found that this aqua silk looks AMAZING with the black watch tartan that’s set aside for the missus…ideas, ideas.
I’m hoping these will sew up quite quickly, which is good as I feel the mojo returning, and I’m enjoying my stash diving.
Girl you never stop, do you? When do you sleep and eat? Inspiring

Oh the black and the stripes will be perfect together! I always save those UFOs just in case I can salvage something from them. Looking forward to seeing what you create this time!

Glad that you could salvage that stripy fabric. It was lovely, if a little hard on the eyes. I keep all my scraps for those sort of things too. Makes for some interesting combinations. Xx
