Viscose jersey in a crazy red leopard print, matched to Vogue 1552, a Sandra Betzina design. I’m really falling for these drapey voluminous dresses lately, and I’d indulged in the pattern a few weeks ago…then MyFabrics sent me a voucher, so I splurged on 2.5m of this mad print. The voucher basically offset the postage costs and a bit more, so the whole thing comes in at just £24. I’m happy with that!
It’s a very easy pattern, I made it even easier by omitting the pointless back seam [no shaping, so why bother?] Front, back, sleeves, collar. Done. I sewed it up in an hour. The pattern image looks to be just below knee length, but I’ve kept it as per the pattern, no shortening [I usually have to lop off a couple of inches, but hey, why bother?] I was going to go with the contrast collar and sleeves…but why skimp on the insanity of red leopard?
I think the collar is way smaller than it looks in the line drawing, but I’m fine with that. I like the fit through the upper body, It feels quite sleek despite the volume of fabric.
That’s it, not much to say, other than I really can’t work out how to drape these side bits- the points are just like the ones on that Style Arc Toni that gave me so much grief. Do I poke them in, pull them out, faff with them to make the drape look like it does on the pattern? No clue. Time will tell.
**edit: I wore it to work today, and decided to just let the sides dangle. they dangled well, and I felt like a very glamorous barmaid/balloon!
What a gorgeous dress. The fabric and colour are glorious and the shape is bonkers in the best sort of way. The shoes are very vamp and lovely. You look ace. Xx

I felt really nice in this all day- much needed when things at work get so tense lol I want more of the fabric- it sewed up like a dream, is lightweight, yet cosy enough to not need a cardigan. Winner!

Thanks- I’m now wondering if I should have shortened it a little after all though…

Awesome! I dropped by the closest “cheap” fabric store today, hoping for something bright and cheery, but the only fun prints were in dusky pinks and such. Too boring. This otoh, is totally awesome.

Love it! I’ve been looking at this style of dress recently, but can’t make out whether all that fabric will do me any favours or not, size-wise. They do look mega comfortable though! Love yours in the leopard print 😍
