Et voilá!
StyleArc Marie jacket, #2. Finished.
Once I won the battle of the open/closed seam thing, and got the peced facing attched, most of the rest was hand sewing to finish it more simply than on the machine. The chunky rib knit was fighting the sewing machine, so under-stitching, top-stitching, and hemming were best ignored, and just dealt with in the easiest way.
So I understitched, pressed, caught all the facings down to the overlocked seams with some pretty rough stitching, which fortyunately doesn’t show. I herringbone/catch -stitched the hems and sleeve cuffs, found a chunky black hook and eye for the left side to make it sit nicely when it zips up, and it’s all done.

I had worried that the double layer of merino for the sleeves might not play nicely, but I put them right sides together, and they didn’t shift at all while inserting, sewing the sleeve/side seams, or hemming. Brilliant!
I wore it straight away to visit my ma, and it kept me warm as toast, despite chilly evening temperatures, and without feeling bulky. My mum liked it too [and only got in one dig about my fat belly, which is par for the course…even though she looks like a little barrel too. Sigh.]
So here it is, largely pieced together from leftovers and scraps, with an oddment form the market for the main body.
I really like it, so may make another in a brighter ponte at some point. A useful cardigan that doesn’t look overly casuyal or frumpy. Result!

Cool, it worked out! I’ll make sure to stay away from the pattern, then. And – what is it with mothers? 😃

It’s a cool pattern…but not for anyone with hips. I suppose it wouldn’t be hard to grade it out, but I’m glad some shapes are for the cylindrical lol

Just tell your mum you’re too busy being happy to worry about your tummy.

It’s a cool pattern, for sure. As for mum- I just pat her fat belly when she points mine out, then she sucks it in…daft old bugger!
