I was hoping for some Mediterranean sunshine here in grey and dismal Brum, but it isn’t coming, so I togged up and dragged the missus after to take some snaps. Before we braved the chill damp air, I tried a few fast options for tops to go with this- I’ve found purple problematic in the past, other than when matched with more purple, and I also wanted to look at shapes and styles of tops that might work.
Anyway, long story shorter, I’m not getting fully rigged up in my proper corsets today for the show of how this works with several of my steampunk looks, this is more ‘real’ clothes, as I may well enter this look in the Pattern Review ‘Match My Shoes’ competition, as long as I make a decision [and a top] pretty sharpish.
Despite the horrors of how incredibly HUGE my middle looks in a fitted skirt, I LOVE this. Enjoy!
The skirt looks amazing!!! Well done!! 😀

Fantastic! Even if I always do hear the characters from “Life of Brian” when I hear the phrase “lilies of the field.” 😉

You get so many Monty Python references here lately. Gotta be something in the air or internets or world…

I think we all got wired that way growing up watching them.

I especially love the corset-enhanced version. It looks like you love it, so that’s a plus.

I love this skirt! It’s like a gothic romantic purple fairytale dream.

And not to get into the whole “girl you don’t look fat!” talk which I’m sure we both loathe, but one of my first thoughts seeing the pictures was that the exaggerated proportions combined with the slim fit middle actually visually narrowed you at your waist.

lol I may not be fatty fat fatalicious, but I’m WAY too thick waisted, and it’s not healthy to have all your fat around the middle. It’s nature though, my ma’s the same- nice slim bum and legs, even at 80, but a belly you can balance teacups on lol [useful]

It is! It is! I don’t care if I only ever wear it to swoosh round the house, it is now my official happyskirt. I didn’t take it off after the photo shoot for about three hours, despite the siren call of pyjamas!

I LOVE this skirt. It is beautiful. What a great colour. I like it with black (but then I would) and think that it would look very swish all steampunked up or for a dressy night out. It’s a fabulous match for your shoes. I have shoe envy (again). You seem to have all the best colours. 🙂 Xx

Love it, what fabulous flounces, glorious material and worn with panache. Does it feel suitably heavy and grand? Does it swish satisfyingly and feel luxurious to wear? I’ll pop on over to pattern review if you enter it into the contest and vote for you, it’s a worthy contender.

I have to check if it qualifies…I know I cut it out a while back, might be too early [which would be a shame as it does match those shoes!] It swishes, but is nice and light, even better!

It’s not that difficult but I wouldn’t tackle it without instructions!

Yes, that’s a good reminder to me to always follow the instructions and not race ahead as I usually do.

naughty naughty! I only do that if it’s a really really simple make. Sometimes, a method is suggested that is better…if not, I ignore it and do things my own sweet way

Yup! Pretty much the same here! 😂

Drama Queen! Are you teaching the right subject???
Anyway, aside from the fab skirt, the flounces, the twirling and the swishing and the posing, we all want to know what the blue cardigan pattern is?
Actually, really and truly, hats off for tackling this and making it a success. Wear at will – you deserve it!

the cardigan was originally from Jigsaw, very very expensive. I used to have two, and wore them a lot when I was less stout, and actually working out. I’m much less likely to draw attention to my girth these days, but thought I could just about get away with it with the mad skirt as distraction! I’m considering making a second attempt at the top from that Koos van den Akker pattern V2971 https://s.ecrater.com/stores/36434/51f811cf3ec41_36434b.jpg It went straight to charity shop last time, as it was too short and the neck was too wide. Might be worth another look
