Brief report, just to remind you all that I’m still here! I’m busy catch-stitching all those looooong seam allowances down inside the main part of the wedding dress. Tedious, but it really does make a difference.
It’s looking rather good so far, and I just need to sponge out a few marks from the underlining that I didn’t notice until after I’d sewn it up, and do something about a couple of pencil marks that are doing their best to show through on the right side…little buggers.
Today, the missus picked up the tulle and illusion mesh from the bride, so I can play around with it. I’m not particularly looking forward to this stage, as the tulle needs smoothing out before I cut into it, and I’m always terrified of melting it with the iron!
Wish me luck!
Pressing cloth. Hunk of wood on top of pressing cloth. Press, weight, wait. Zzzzzzzz.
I’m doing a lonnnnnnng rolled hem in chiffon. Why god why?
Onward!

Oh, but there’s MILES of the stuff, and it’s 3m wide! I may need to just steam it!

Steam, baby! Steam is magic. *nods* Still, I wish you luck and all the best in tackling this beast.

For silk chiffon, I prefer to sew by hand, and leave the folds soft…but ruddy poly chiffon is the devil’s work!

Poly chiffon is a nightmare! Only made to raise levels if frustration sky high. I feel for you in your plight…

No poly chiffon, just hugely wide tulle [3m wide!]

Sounds terrifying. Hope that the pressing went well. Xx

Wrap it around the outside of the house and hope for steamy weather!

The rolling did the trick yay! I wrestled all 7m out on the floor today [very fiddly job] to cut out the waist circle in the right place. Now I need to find away to hang it high enough so I can cut away the excess!

You know I won’t suggest anything really practical–except maybe attach some tasty treats to the top edge and have some helpful birds lift it up while you trim it. They get the snacks plus something to put on their CV, and you get the work done. Easy!

The nicest floaty soft tulle I’ve ever used is Dreamweave. 3m wide and available in a huge colour range. Love it, no need for overlocking or hemming… what’s not to love?😊 Oh yes, the cutting out, too wide to fit on the table. 😒

it was a terrible job- I got so hot and bothered I had to strip down and just keep crawling round and round it. trying to straighten it out! It does seem to be a nice texture though, and I have no intention of hemming it!
