Style Arc ‘Ebony’ trousers [NOT PANTS!]. FINAL SWAP 2018 garment
The fabric was a total bargain from Barry’s that’s been in stash for a couple of years [I think]. It’s shirt weight, very drapey, VERY stretchy in a charcoal grey/lighter grey pinstripe.
One booboo in the usual brief StyleArc instructions: the line drawing shows a sort of angled, loose box pleat at the front, but the instructions don’t. And that’s a photograph, so it’s not accidental. I just did it the way I thought looked most like the line drawing. I only found one other review on PR, and she said the same, so I haven’t gone mad.

One booboo by me- despite being [I thought] very careful about the fabric, because front and back look very similar, I managed to cut one of the back pieces out wrong way up. I didn’t notice til I’d nearly finished, and hey, I don’t care lol!
The pull-on trousers are intriguing, with those interesting pleats at the front [and yes, I won’t be wearing this with a tucked in top, so it’s wasted, but it’s comfy! There’s elastic in the back, and the waistband is in three bits, with a front facing. Go on! Buy it and see!
Pockets, yay! The bagginess is something I’m trying to embrace in trousers, and I’m still not 100% convinced, but with this belly, the only other route for me is leggings all the way, so let’s see how I go. Flattering? Not really, those odd pleats, folds, draglines are all over the shop, but hey, they feel great.

That makes 12 things I’ve made for the SWAP, and I can include one RTW and one pre-made item, so I have some decisions to make, then the photos for the actual final submission deadline…I’m not sure if I’m 100% true to the rules, but all the items are wearable, and being worn in pretty fast rotation, so it’s all good!

And now what? Well, I have another pair of the Brenne trousers cut out and ready to sew next, plus the wedding dress to finish…and that Cathedral-inspired dress for Asylum.
Lots to do!
I’m glad it’s comfy. The fabric makes me think it should be more pressed or fancy or well-behaved somehow. Now it’s more like someone in an office who’s been misbehaving in the supplies closet with someone naughty–not a bad look really!

yeah the mismatch of silky drapey fabric and pinstripes amuses me!

I like them a lot. Very smart looking but also comfy. That’s a win. What is it with style arc and misleading confusing instructions?!

Most of them are absolutely fine. Apart from Ziggi lol. This is just an oddness. I didn’t think I’d like these, but I felt great in them and don’t care that they are weird lol

I think this is going to be ‘The Summer of No F**ks Given’ for me. I just bought a comfortable bra, admitted that wide width sandals are a better choice than squishing my feet, and all the patterns in my queue are flowing/drapey/interestingly shaped. My office just put in a ‘dress for your day’ dress code (i.e. if you’re not meeting with clients, wear what you want), so now I can look as eccentric as my heart desires, without having to argue with my new boss.

eccentricity intrigues GOOD clients lol

Another winner. Style Arc can be a bit ‘odd’ on instructions but generally worth persisting with. The tucks in these look great.
I think I made a dress in that fabric – and still have some in brown in the stash. I love Barry’s bargain table 😀.

it’ lovely fabric- not ideal for trousers, hence all the creasing, but so stretchy and nice to wear

They don’t look overly baggy to me: just an interesting shape. Weird about the line drawing though.

easily fixed. They do seem to be slipping as regards quality control on pattern testing and published instructions- I mean, the photographs are nice and clear…just not correct!

I would have passed this right by (Style Arc, is instruction hard?) but now I’m ….oh damn you!

I’d be so confused by all those folds and pleats, but you did it and I think they look great!

They’re really well marked and drafted so it’s actually very simple to assemble…just that the photos, instructions, and pattern drawing don’t match lol As long as you pick ONE of them and stick to it, all is good

Lovely trousers and the pleating is a really interesting detail. They go really well with that gloriously red top. I still haven’t tried Style Arc. I keep getting waylaid by all the shiny Big 4 pattern sales. Thank you for posting that song. I remember this from school. Those were the (musical) days. 🙂 Xx

It’s an earworm though eh? Apparently McLaren stole it- there’s an original version on Youtube, even better without his smarmy little voiceover lol
