Done and dusted.
Here’s a reminder of the rules:
2018 Seasonal Designer Collection SWAP Rules
You are the Designer. Create a cohesive seasonal collection of eleven garments of your choice.
Concept
Consider designer collections like Eileen Fisher, Karen Kane, Kaliyana, Bryn Walker, Eskandar, etc and how they work with a few neutrals, add an accent color or two and some prints. Multiple styles of pants, tops, jacket/cardigan, dresses, accessories, etc are made from the limited color/print palette. New seasons bring new items that work with some of the garments from prior seasons. Your goal is to create a collection that looks like it belongs together and that you can easily add new pieces to in the future.
Plan:
Choose two neutral colors
Add one accent color and two prints OR two accent colors and one print
Make at least three garments from each neutral color
Make at least one garment from each accent color
Make at least one garment from each print
Remaining two garments may be made from any one or combination of your neutrals, accent(s) and/or print(s)
Create multiple outfits of at least two garments that work for your personal style
Each garment must work with a minimum of two outfits
Rules
Sewing begins on 26 December 2017 and ends 30 April 2018
One garment may be started on 1 November 2017 and completed prior to 26 December 2017
One garment may be completed prior to 1 November 2017
One RTW garment may be included
Neutrals do not need to be the same fabric, however, they do need to work together **
Prize
I will award a $25 gift certificate to EOS or another online fabric store to the winner
Guidelines (not required but recommended)
Use TNT patterns as much as possible
Limit the number of patterns used since Designer Collections include the same garments made in different colors/prints
Here was what I liked the look of, all from Dogstar
How close did I get? You be the judge…here’re some of the finished pics…link to full album on //s.imgur.com/min/embed.js“>IMGUR here. We took over 100 pics, and I only needed to delete a few, and move the ones of the photo bombing kitty to another folder!
I may have blurred the rules regarding accent and prints, as so many garments are made of multiple fabrics. The tartan is woven so I’m counting it as red! I have 4 black items, [including one trimmed in red, and one in multi fabrics including a print] 3 grey [including a print, my RTW item, and a pre-made item], 4 red [including the woven tartan and a multi/print piece].
Well, it’s 11 items altogether, and the colours are coherent. I’ve been wearing the heck out of all bar one, so I think it’s very successful. Of course, they’ve all been suitable to late winter/early spring, so will now hibernate until autumn in all likelihood, but I love ’em!
What made the cut [all previously blogged]:
V9114, Kathryn Brenne: black skirt, tartan skirt, red trousers
Style Arc Lani tunic: black maths print, grey with pintucks [pre-made], grey animals
V1415, Tom & Linda Platt: red velvet tunic
Style Arc Ebony trousers in grey pinstripe
V8793, Tilton Tshirt
B6287: red multi tunic
Grey Vera Wang RTW leggings
Just 6 patterns used, only the red trouser fabric was purchased specially, and the red tartan was from someone else’s stash clear-out. Lots of piecing and stash diving here, so I feel quite virtuously thrifty. The Butterick top and the black skirt were re-fashioned too.
What didn’t make the cut:
V8434 silk kimono- it is lovely, but I must shorten the sleeves somehow, and it doesn’t mix and match enough for this collection.
Style Arc Daisy black linen trousers- still waiting to be tamed
V1415 black denim trousers, ditto
StyleArc Marie cardigan jacket- mainly because I couldn’t tolerate layering that much in this heat! It does work with lots of the tops though
Kwiksew 4173 striped tunic, it’s lovely if layered, but I can’t wear it on its own, so it lost to the rules!
V1415 black swirl tunic- the only item I’m just not feeling. I love the fabric, but it may go.
These are the pics I’m submitting to Stitchers’ Guild. If you’re a member, voting will start soon!

This is a fabulous collection! Red looks really lovely on you 😍 I’ve discovered that I really don’t have enough black basics, so I’m planning to make several skirts. Boring, but necessary!
Well done on your set, even though you broke some of the rules on prints everything really does look awesome together 👍🏻

well at least one of the prints is a woven lol And they have said that as the designer, we can interpret the rules as we wish…so some of my prints are officially to be seen as black or grey *cackles evilly* The ‘prints’ are the animal print and the math print. Probably. But hey, whatever!

Fabulous! You deserve to win.
After seeing your tartan skirt I’ve made one to wear to Scottish country dancing party nights.

Thanks! The photo process is always a giggle because of the banter between me and my wife. She leers a lot lol

What a triumph DF. It is such a contrast to your horrible job experiences in the recent months. Happy, sunny, optimistic, fiery, balanced, accurate, balanced and very clever. Super work and a real feeling of a set of outfits true to who you are. I love the concepts here and the excellent execution. Very well done (and what a magnificent garden you have). My favourite is the tartan skirt, but I love the way that everything really can be worn with everything.

Thanks Kate that means a lot x I have really enjoyed making and wearing this lot [and the pieces that didn’t make the cut] Sometimes things just come together don’t they? I’m hoping the glam interview combo works for me tomorrow [pinstripes and velvet, hey why not?]

How fantastic your SWAP group is. I love everything but especially the tartan skirt I will (must!) make one later this year. In my opinion you should win and how lovely to have a spend up at EOS, a particular vice of mine.

Thanks- there are some wonderful collections this year, all very very cohesive collections. I think I will need to claim some commission from Vogue for that Brenne pattern lol

Thanks! The pattern is highly recommended- so easy to sew [apart from the teeny hem, but there has to be some price to pay lol
