I had hoped to be wearing this coat for Friday playground duty, but despite a couple of hard pushes this week, I left things rather late.
I have got it as far as an exploded view though- sleeves assembled [and oh boy I love that astrakhan long cuff!], bodice and skirt assembled but not joined, and all the lining pieces to the same point too. Obviously all the underlining trimming and catch stitching and serious pressing slows things down even though the sewing itself is simple enough.
Oh yes, all the pressing! The steam, the moulding of the wool, the faffing with ham, pressing cloth and sleeve board…all tedious of course, but the final results are very satisfying. I just hope the ruddy thing fits as indicated by the toile!
So, now to attach collar, skirt to bodice, insert sleeves, and get the zip in. The facing and lining will go in as one, not fully bagged out cos I can’t be bothered with the shenanigans designed to replicate a RTW finish, I’d rather aspire to couture thank you, and finish the hems by hand.
Easy to finish over the weekend! I may even start the matching hat…if I can get my head round the Japanese instructions…watch this space
