2018 packed and left, and we’re already nearly two weeks into 2019!
I haven’t done any summing up, or ‘best of’ posts, so I spent some time this afternoon looking at statistics and browsing rapidly through this year’s posts to see what’s what.
Ready?
Part 1, numbers and fails
90 posts [fewer than the two years before, 165 in 2017 and 186 in 2016], 15227 visitors, 83451 views, meaning most people stayed and browsed for a while, which is nice. [I actually have two unblogged garments I’ve been wearing, as the winter evenings don’t give much opportunity for photographs, and I spent Christmas in pyjamas! so call it 92 really]
I chuckled happily at my own jokes in all those punning blog titles, meh, whatever, I like mad puns…My favourites? ‘Klimt Every Mountain’, ‘Mac Gizmo’, ‘Not Kilty M’Lud’, ‘Stripe Tease’ and ‘Oki Dokey’. Maybe you had to be there…
1350 comments, with my top chatterboxes being Catherine, Kim, DonnaLee and Linda. We loves a good natter!
35740 words, averaging 406/post. A fair amount, but only 62% of the output for 2017. I didn’t do CoBloWriMo this year, which explains that one.
So, a bit less output, but still a nice average. I don’t make any pledges about how many posts per week to write, or try for any sort of regularity, so it’s not bad overall. I don’t intend to stop, as it makes me sad when favourite bloggers vanish, but who knows what the year may bring?
I’m sewing less, as I’m not so in need of the therapy, but I’m wearing the things I make MUCH more, being back in a school where dress standards are a bit less scruffy than in college. I made a nice collection in red black and grey for last year’s SWAP entry, and have worn almost all of it a LOT. I’ve made another capsule of blue/green/purple which should have been my ‘Sewing with a kind of plan’ entry for The Sewing Place, but I didn’t finish in time, not even for the extended deadline. I’m wearing the stuff a lot though.
I still like to sew [and buy fabric] on impulse, but thinking about these coordinated collections seems to suit me at least once or twice a year…and I just went to peek at the Stitchers’ Guild SWAP rules, which had totally passed me by this year, so I may jog my thinking round to that. The rules look very me, being colour based which seems to fit my chaotic brain better than anything more numerical.
So, what happened this year?
I had a little taste of sewing fame [well, it felt like that to me so shaddap]. I was a mystery blogger nominated by Kim, I did a guest blogger post on Male Devon Sewing, and I was a featured member on Pattern review. [This year I’ve already won the prize draw on Goodbye Valentino and won a sewing machine, so this year may be better still!]
I’ve made about 54 things this year, and most are in constant rotation.
FAILS
two categories here- things I haven’t finished for some reason, and things I finished and liked, but haven’t worn.
I’m not even TALKING about the subtraction dress disaster though…
Not worn:
V1415 silky tunic, made for SWAP, love the style and fabric, haven’t worn it once
V8434 red kimono-sleeve tunic made from old sari- too dramatic and not flattering. May salvage the fabric for something
Simplicity 8177 Mimi G wide leg trousers- wide legs have been a disaster for me this year
Kwiksew 4173 tunic made for the SWAP. I like it, keep passing it over…
New Look 6086 satin camisole, weather changed just as it was finished, so may well work for warmer weather
Unfinished:
V1415 wide leg trousers in stretch denim. Still sitting waiting to be salvaged
V1470 Platt party dress- something weird happened here and it looks horrible. I love the fabric though [lovely silk] so will need to do something to save it
Style Arc Melody tunic in black/white stripes- horrible, just horrible…
SA Daisy wide leg trousers in black linen. Hideous, must be fixed
Greenstyle Moxy shorts for me- just a weird shape on my flat bum
McCalls 6792 batwing dress- unflattering, unfinished
Okistyle Salt jacket, toiled, horrible, abandoned
Okistyle Em dress, cut out, not yet sewn
Closet Case Files bombshell swimsuit- almost very good, needs taking in over hips and a little tweak for more modesty. This will get finished, honest
Not TOO bad.
At least I caught a couple of them at the toile stage! If only I could remember to do that with all experimental styles, I would save more lovely fabric. Ah well, it’s what I buy it for I suppose…
Right now onward and upward t part 2…
90 posts?! 😱😱😱 that’s insane!
Always love a good round up, and especially appreciate the nerdy stats 🤓
Here’s to a fab 2019! 🙌🏻

Onward and upward! 90 seems a bit slight going on my usual output, but then I always work on a whim rather than a plan, which seems to make it less like work so I do more [make sense? Maybe!] Nerdy stats for the win!

Thankyou ma’am! The best thing is getting to know people, and even [eventually] meeting them, which is fab. Must set up another meet this year, as the markets won’t be with us in their present form for much longer…
