Well, it’s been a while, but the sewing gods demanded more of me yesterday than just spending an hour re-threading the overlocker five times, and went for the blood sacrifice.
I was getting on with the coat [collar’s on, skirts are joined to bodices, hole in lining mended …shhhh….] and the end is in sight. I got out my wonderclips [thanks to CatherineDaze for reminding me I had some!] and got lining and coat ready to sew together, zip basted and clipped in place. Seriously, the end is near, after this, it’s sleeves [already assembled and lined] and hem, so a small amount of machine sewing and an hour or two of hand finishing.
OBVIOUSLY time for a sacrifice, so I obliged and machined my left index finger. Good job the coat is red, is all I’m saying! OW.
It’s scabbed over now, so I should be able to continue. If I was religious/superstitious, I’d be praying to whichever saint looks after needleworkers [bound to be one, they’re like rabbits these saints, turn round and there’s another dozen]
Wish me luck, I’m heading back in!
Sounds painful – hope you’re finger heals up soon. Yep you’re right, there’s St Clare! Apparently a contemporary of St Francis of Assisi.

Oh NO! That hurts. I thought I’d look up the patron saint of seamstresses, and it appears there are a few, lol. Here are a few choices, take your pick……
St Homobonus, St Anne, and St Tabitha the Widow.
Heal well and good luck with removing the blood stain. 🙂

Oh dear my brain just sprang to life with some extremely rude jokes inspired by ‘homobonus’…

A very elderly nun at my school told a group of us 9 year olds (mid 1970s) that when she was a child, the call out to St Anne was ‘Dear St Anne, get me a man’. A hard-working saint, she must have two jobs.

Better not think about what they asked Saint Nick for…

Ouch–I only know a local charity that started a hundred years ago for the benefit of ‘indigent needlewomen’ but eventually had to expand its scope. At least you’re in best British military tradition with the red coat for the reason of hiding blood–

Ouch. I hope your colleagues realise what sacrifices you have made in the name of playground officiating. Those Saint names got my mind working and not in a cultured needlewoman way. Think we should stick with St Clare (apparently also the patron saint of television).

Well I like to do my handsewing while watching telly [as long as the missus tolerates my bright working light] so that could work!

I keep catching it on things and opening it up again- it’s like a papercut, ruddy nuisance!

it’s on my left hand so all good…I got all the machine sewing done yesterday, now it’s hand finishing- understitching , hemming, and catching down the sleeve linings.
