I only seem to be able to find the energy to sew at weekends, so I’m not progressing to my expected schedule…but stuff IS happening on the panto front, honest! Work is going swimmingly, maths club and sewing club underway, and this week we started up an after school session as a ‘clone’ of a club run at Birmingham University for prep for Oxbridge-style entrance exams. THAT was tiring.
I took a few things in to show the cast a week or so ago, took a few additional measurements, chased up on the dame’s boobs [more on that later] and checked if any plans had changed in my absence. All good. I’d hoped to go each week taking signs of progress but it seems to slip into being every other week…
I’ve been charity shop shopping, got quite a stash of curtains and curtain linings, collected some donated sheets from the cast, and found some more glitter and glam on a Facebook destash group [should be arriving soon]
I’ve completed
- pocket hoops
- lobstertail bustle
- crab hat
- lobster hat
- fish headpiece [twice, once too big!]
- a wench blouse
- 3 pirate shirts
- one pirate coat
Part made
- dame’s pirate coat [in the header pic, isn’t it vomit-inducingly garish? Perfect]
Cut out [today] for the next stage of sewing
- a very frilly shirt
- another wench blouse
- wench skirt & apron
- boned cummerbund
- captain’s coat and breeches
- another pirate shirt
Now the cutting out is paused because now I have to find a suitably robust underlining for the captain’s suit, the velvet is floppier and stretchier than I would have wanted. Lots of ironing on interfacing to come, plus recutting all those pieces of underlining. Sigh.
Just in case you thought I was being lazy!
Seeya soon
Certainly not lazy! That sounds like good progress and a fun production.

Lazy? You? Err, no. Not at all. That’s about as far from what I consider your traits as possible. You’re more like scientist, sewist, a creative maven with a fab sense of humour.
And this project is shaping up nicely! I’m thoroughly impressed. 💖👍🏼

I’ll take that! But I actually am very lazy…just bursts of energy like a cat before I sleep for a week again!

Curtains are the costumer’s best friend. I’m not sewing any costumes these days (and would fly over to help but money and time are not my friends) but it’s really hard to pass up brocade curtain fabric at the thrift store. It’s in my blood apparently (or my blood is on it)(pick one).
I am looking forward to the hats.

Glad you’re still around and not buried under a heap of fabric.

I try not to go to charity shops unless on a specific mission- too many potentially useful lengths of fabric to be re-homed!

You’ve got so many projects on the go! Those costumes are quite frilly and detailed. I see lots of work getting these done!

I’d say I’m about half way through- made lots of shirts, now I’m making breeches and waistcoats. I’m saving the transformation dress project until the end, so I can enjoy it!

I hope I get to see it all! I’ve been a little busy myself lately! 😁👍
