Well, it’s kilt-ish I suppose!
Kathryn Brenne skirt from Vogue 9114. Woven cotton tartan which I bought for a SNIP from a lovely member of ‘The Sewing Place’ who was having a stash clearance. This may find its way into the SWAP as I still count it as being a stash bust, even if it’s not my stash!
I cut it out at the weekend, and sewed the whole thing up in one evening, which is a treat.
The fabric wasn’t wide enough, so I cut it on the cross grain. I also still fell slightly short so just made it a tad narrower by moving it over the fold a smidge. And I [almost] pattern matched! Good enough for this Fairy.
Then of course it came out slightly too tight on my fat middle, so I chopped some of the length out, from the waist down. This worked perfectly, because of my titchy height!
French seams, tiny narrow hems [there’s no escape lately] and a double channel elastic waistband, which is very comfy. I again ignored the pattern piece to make ties [life’s too short] and just used narrow rayon seam ribbon from stash. Not even in matching colours, what a rebel!
From the very small scraps, I have cut out 2 pocket bags, and intend to attach them at the top edges only, so they look like pouches. NO idea why, it feels vaguely punky! I was desperate to wear this to work though, so I have put them to one side to add later.
I like it A LOT. This is my new signature skirt I think.
In other news- the little boots were just over a fiver from the Bay of E. Cute AND comfy. Nice!
That’s absolutely fab nay fan – dab – dozi, DF. Sort of Vivienne Westwood meets Andy Stewart meets the Krankies. No, no, cancel the Krankies bit! I definitely want one of those (that is skirt, not Krankie). Also, did you know that you can spice lots of different tartans together to make a Frankenkilt? – very now, apparently. I’m going to get to this pattern real soon I hope.

It’s a bloody delight- I can’t believe I’ve left it sitting around for so long!

That does seem very Vivienne Westwood to me–good for you. Cute boots, and I hope the heels don’t come right off of something, for that price.

I really love this! What an interesting shape. And yes, it does feel kind of punky – but that’s good! And I do love a good eBay bargain too – the boots are fab!

This is what I was hoping for- I’m making a mini Westwood/Galliano/McQueen sort of capsule, this is item #2. McWestiano I suppose? Thanks!

Very easy to wear, as despite being pull on, it’s not bulky. I suppose someone with hips would have to add a zip! Great pattern, really nice

meh winter schminter! It’s February, we still have our tree up [because it makes us happy to see the shiny things] and I’ll be wearing this all year I suspect!

That is super cool! Great plaid matching, by the way. I have decided I must see your closet (wardrobe). Seriously, you must have a couple of entire rooms dedicated to your clothes!

lol one wardrobe of steampunk, one wardrobe of muggle gear, and some [broken] drawers…I clear out stuff that is too tight frequently, and as I keep getting fatter…

Wow. Maybe with a velvet peplum-ish jacket in black or…maybe the gold from the plaid? Green would be a bit Yuletide. I wonder how that tartan taffeta that little girl dresses were made of in my youth would work for this pattern? Hmmmmm.

tartan taffeta yum. I’ve had my eye on a lush silk tartan taffeta for some years, but it’s VERY pricey

Ooh that’s another great skirt. I saw a fantastic unbalanced tartan wool the other day that would be amazing with this pattern. And if you can sew it in one evening that’s another major plus 🙂

doing it on purpose!

I just knew we were the same era, love this! The asymmetrical drape, the tartan, everything…can’t imagine why you feel vaguely punkish 🙂
Hmm, feel like listening to a bit of The Jam…

What a fab skirt. It definitely has a great McQueen/Galliano punk vibe. This would look fabulous with a hacking jacket. The fabric is utterly lovely. Xx

Isn’t it?! So nice to rescue unwanted fabrics from stash, even someone else’s! The blue/green is even nicer in my opinion…
