‘Tis done! The parrot has landed!
V2813, stretch cotton sateen panel print from The Textile Centre.
A couple more buttonholes, loads of teensy buttons to sew on [I used ones left from my daughter’s wedding dress for now, they may end up different colours courtesy of nail varnish]. A few ‘French tacks’ [whatever they may be, I just did my own thing] and the shirt is done.
I really love my parrot fashion. I can see from the photos [before you tell me] that a teensy little FBA might have been a good idea, but hey ho, these Voguee patterns are very unpredictable for size/ease, and most Vogue come up big in my experience. Warning, this one doesn’t! It’s a straight size 16. If the fabric didn’t have a bit of stretch, I don’t think I’d get away with it.
Pics here with the collar buttoned [and top button fastened] and collar undone, and top button with it. It seems to lie better like that, but both ways work.
The interfacing is all silk organza, which has a lovely soft effect, which I particularly like on the cuffs.
I could probably have taken an inch off the length, but I’d rather it’s slightly long, than too short.
I LOVE MY PARROT! Have I mentioned that? He gives a reason for my back fat- something for him to roost/perch on.
I could probably make him do amusing things if I did some sort of body-builder pose, but..er..no.
Love it. Does the beak appear on the top of the sleeve, or is it an optical illusion??

It’s a drop shoulder so the whole parrot fits on the back…it wouldn’t work on a standard pattern, so this was serendipitous to say the least. I really must make all the hidden buttons different colours now, just for the fun of it

It’s great, from what looks like a plain white blouse from the front to the surprise on the back, it’s a one off and you’d pay a fortune for something like that.

That’s a great make. I love the parrot although you only get to see what it’s up to when you take it off. Love the Harry Hill type collar and the hidden placket. Any news from the top? My husband was made redundant at 54 from his post as Director of Engineering and Science at a huge FE college and whilst it broke him for a while he has had 16 years in a lovely new area, working at the coal face with much less pressure. Fingers are crossed for you.

All we’ve heard so far is that everyone in our department who applied for voluntary severance got it. [not automatic, it seems]. We’re still waiting to know if that’s enough, or if more of us need to get chopped…I’m going [not very quietly] batty

A surprise shirt! Brilliant and a dart in his tail too.

hee hee! Some of the darts may be removed, probably the front ones though to better accommodate my fat belly. I can’t think of a better use for Horatio [yes, the wife named him after her naval hero]…where else on the body would he fit?
